Christmas breaks from cottages to castles with Irish Ferries Holidays

For a Christmas holiday ‘overseas’ that definitely won’t involve long queues at the airport or cost ‘an arm and a leg’, Irish Ferries Holidays features a choice of cottages and hotels across Ireland:

• Woodstock Demesne is a collection of high-quality self-catering properties within the grounds of the Druids Glen Marriott Hotel and alongside the Druids Glen Golf Club in the heart of Co Wicklow. A week’s rental of a cottage sleeping six  between 19 December  2 January is £786 which includes use of the Hotel’s leisure centre and pool.  Woodstock is 45 minutes’ drive from Dublin city and 20 minutes from Brittas Bay beach for bracing winter walks.

• For a ‘west coast’ Christmas, Kincora Harbourside Apartments overlook the marina at Killaloe on the banks of the River Shannon.  Killaloe boasts charming, narrow streets and a 13th century cathedral, while boat hire and lake cruises (wrap up warm!) are available from the marina. The apartments sleep five and a week’s rental at Christmas is £488.

• Christmas in a castle may seem like a distant dream but it’s one that can come true this year with a festive break at Fitzpatrick’s Castle Hotel overlooking Dublin Bay.  Facilities at the hotel include an indoor pool, sauna and gym, plus grill and restaurant.  A three-night stay in December breakfast, £197 per person (based on twin share), with additional nights at £59 per person.
