Fire Incident On Board Ferry “Oscar Wilde”
Irish Ferries confirms that a fire, which occurred at approximately 19.20 hrs, was suppressed on board its Ireland/France cruise ferry “Oscar Wilde” .
The fire, which has been contained, broke out in the generator room which is situated within the engine room section of the vessel and was suppressed by members of the crew.
The fire occurred shortly after the vessel had departed from A & P Shipyard at Falmouth, UK where it had been in dry dock undergoing its annual overhaul.
Some 113 crew were on board at the time. There were no other passengers on board. All crew have been accounted for and no person was injured in the incident.
All procedures were followed and all authorities notified. At present the vessel is safely anchored off the coast at Falmouth.
Crew are now assessing the extent of the damage.
The vessel had been expected to resume sailings between Rosslare and Cherbourg, departing Rosslare on tomorrow afternoon, two days ahead of schedule. These sailings are now cancelled until further notice. The cause of the outbreak is not known at this time.

The Oscar Wilde was purchased by Irish Ferries in 2007 for service on its Ireland/France routes. It has been operating on these routes since November 2007.
The 31,914 tonnes vessel was built in Turku, Finland in 1987. It has capacity for 1,458 passengers and 580 cars/62 freight units.
