Frequently Asked Questions

Special needs

Facilities for passengers with reduced mobility and special needs.

Irish Ferries is committed to making travel on our services as easy and comfortable as possible for passengers with special needs. All ports used by Irish Ferries are wheelchair friendly. In addition to mobility and sensory restrictions our disability facilities are available to passengers with mental health problems, specific learning difficulties and medical conditions which may have an impact on day-to-day activities.
Self -identification is very important to us as we can then flag your booking for disability awareness. Please contact us at least 3 days before travel if you, or any member of your party has special needs . If you have reduced mobility your booking will be flagged and at check-in you will be asked to turn on your vehicle hazard lights – this action alerts crew to your special need requirement. We will try to position your vehicle close to the lift thereby making the transfer from the car deck to the upper passenger deck areas as seamless as possible.

Facilities for passengers with reduced mobility include:
Wheelchair available in every port terminal and on every ship
Wheelchair friendly port terminals and ships ·
Specially adapted public toilets in our port terminals and on-board
Dedicated seating areas on all ships.
Specially adapted cabins on our cruise ferries
Hearing loops at all our reception decks on board and ashore
Registered guide dogs allowed throughout the passenger areas

Medical Oxygen for personal use

Passengers travelling in a private vehicle may carry a maximum of 6 size "F" or smaller cylinders containing compressed Oxygen UN1072. Passengers must carry a letter from their doctor confirming that they require medical oxygen. The onus is on the passenger to ensure that their own medical oxygen cylinder is in good working order.

Food outlets

All food outlets are easily assessable to passengers with reduced mobility. Furthermore, each of our restaurants is equipped with movable furniture to suit individual needs. Braille menus are also available

Club Class

The club class lounge on the Dublin Swift and the Isle of Inishmore is not suitable for wheelchair users as there is no lift access.
The Ulysses is very suitable for wheelchair users as a lift goes directly from the car deck to the Club Class lounge which is situated on deck 11. There are 3 specially adapted toilets on board which are suitable for wheelchair users. These toilets are situated on deck 9 – there is direct lift access between deck 11 and deck 9
