Irish Ferries are constantly monitoring a rapidly evolving situation in relation to COVID-19.
Irish Ferries continues to operate schedules linking Ireland to Britain and France, playing a critical role in the supply chain, so supermarket shelves remain stocked and important pharmaceutical and medical supplies are shipped. If you wish to amend or cancel your booking for travel up to 12 July 2020, our normal terms and conditions apply.

Q. Are you cancelling your sailings to affected areas?
A. Irish Ferries continues to operate schedules linking Ireland to GB and France, playing a critical role in the supply chain, so supermarket shelves remain stocked and important pharmaceutical and medical supplies are shipped. We are also maintaining links for essential travel such as repatriation and travel for essential carers/workers including medical staff, whilst ensuring social distancing on board.
We will be in contact with you if there are changes to our schedule as a result of COVID-19.
Q. I understand that there are restricted movements and new regulations in Ireland/UK/France – what does that mean for me?
A. Ireland currently has travel advisories advising against non-essential travel. Please ensure if travelling that you have documentation supporting your reasons for travel/movement, as this is likely to be required for checks by the relevant authorities. Further details on the restrictions can be found here:
The Irish Health Authorities require anyone coming into Ireland, to self-isolate for 14 days. Passengers arriving into Ireland are required by law to complete a Passenger Locator Form (one per person over 16 years). This will be collected on arrival for checks by authorities.
A. The UK has travel advisories advising against non-essential travel. Please ensure if travelling that you have documentation supporting your reasons for travel/movement, as this is likely to be required for checks by the relevant authorities. Further details on the restrictions can be found here:
A. Travellers arriving into France will need to complete a form detailing their justification for travel, supported by relevant documentation. This need to be presented for verification at check-in in Dublin Port. These documents are likely to be inspected on arrival in Cherbourg and when in transit in France, so there may be associated delays on disembarkation at Cherbourg. If travelling for professional/business reasons, an additional form needs to be completed by the employer.
French Authorities now require passengers to wear a face mask / face covering when onboard in French waters and in the port area at Cherbourg. This does not have to be a medical mask, and passengers under 11 years are exempt. Please have a face mask / face covering with you when travelling.
Q. Does the advice on gatherings of more than 100 people apply to ferry sailings?
A. The government advice relates to restricting social gatherings of more than 100 people in confined spaces. This does not apply to our ferry sailings comprising individuals/small groups where there is ample space to have the recommended social distancing of more than 2m between people, and this policy is being announced on all our ships at the onset of sailing. To facilitate social distancing, onboard cinemas, bars and Club Class lounge services have been closed. We are also cancelling our Wine Tasting sailings on the W.B. Yeats in April, May and June 2020, to adhere to this advice.
Q. I have been advised not to travel but the sailing isn’t cancelled. Where does that leave me with my booking?
Q. Have any special measures been put in place onboard the ships?
A.We are monitoring the situation and in contact with relevant health authorities. The master of the ship announces our policy of social distancing at the onset of all sailings. To facilitate social distancing, onboard cinemas, bars and Club Class lounge services have been closed. We are following all published advice and guidance, including, for example, increasing the frequency of our onboard cleaning routines, giving special attention to common touch points. We are displaying HSE notices regarding COVID-19 and making hand sanitiser dispensers available. Ventilation and air conditioning systems on board our ships use 100% fresh air.
We will continue to review and update our programmes and procedures in line with the best advice available.
Q. Do I need to wear a face mask when on-board?
A. Irish authorities now recommend wearing a cloth face covering in situations where it is difficult to practice social distancing. Additionally, it is now mandated by the French Authorities for passengers to wear a face mask when onboard ships in French waters and in Cherbourg port (with children under 11 years exempt). Irish Ferries therefore advise that you should have a face mask / face covering when travelling with us.
Q. Is the air conditioning on your ships recirculated air?
A. Air conditioning on board all our ships uses 100% fresh air and is not re-circulated.
Q. Are you screening passengers at ports?
A. On the advice of our health authorities, at check-in, passengers will be asked about contacts with COVID-19 cases, and possible symptoms of COVID-19.
Passengers who confirm that either of these apply to them will require specific authorisation from Health Authorities to continue with their travel.
Q. Will my travel insurance cover me?
A. If your sailing is proceeding as planned, but there is a government issued restriction or warning against travel to your destination, you can contact your travel insurer to seek a refund in accordance with the terms of your travel insurance policy.
Q. What about the balance due on my Ireland-France booking?
As we hope our Ireland-France sailings will proceed as scheduled, balances due for bookings made online will be automatically collected in line with the booking Terms and Conditions c. 41 days before travel. If you wish to speak to us regarding your options for your booking, please contact us by phone.
Q. Bookings made with third parties/agents
