Play Golf in Ireland at Shane Lowry’s home club!

21 Jul 2019

New Open Golf champion Shane Lowry first hit a golf ball at Erry Pitch and Putt course in his hometown of Clara, before becoming the professional at Esker Hills Golf Club in nearby Tullamore in County Offaly, in the heart of Ireland.

For those who fancy playing Shane’s home course the easiest route is to sail with Irish Ferries from Holyhead to Dublin, from where it’s only 75 minutes’ drive west.

Esker Hills is a 6619-yard, par 72 parkland course designed by Christy O’Connor Jnr in 1994, which winds through lakes and woodland. Green fees at start at only €30.

“I played Esker Hills myself just a couple of months ago,” says Irish Ferries’ head of passenger sales Dermot Merrigan, “and it’s a fantastic course offering great value for the wonderful track that it is!”

Esker Hills is just one of over 300 golf clubs on the island of Ireland, including elite clubs like Royal Portrush, the scene of Shane’s triumph on the Causeway Coast.

Travelling by ferry in your own car means there is no extra charge to pack all the clubs and golfing kit in the boot of the car.

FARES: One-way Holyhead to Dublin fares for a car and driver start at £89. Irish Ferries can also book accommodation at selected hotels and guest houses all over Ireland.
