Discover Wallonia: History, Nature and Adventure

Belgium’s captivating southern region brings history, nature and culture together in perfect harmony. Thanks to its network of toll-free motorways and N-designated national roads, it’s an easy drive. Just 90 minutes from the ferry terminal, you’ll be ready to start your Wallonia escapade in no time.

Why not stop at the old British stronghold town of Tournai, cultural Mons or laid-back Namur? If medieval history piques your interest, then carry on to  the ancient feudal towns of La Roche-en-Ardenne or Bouillon. Or if pretty postcard towns float your boat, stay in the riverside town of Dinant – home of the saxophone. Or Durbuy, the tiniest city in the world. The region has  also been at the forefront of war history with Waterloo, WW1 and WW2 battlefields. Memorials of these historical events dot the landscape as you travel through.

If you crave the outdoors then the Ardennes provides rolling forests, winding trails, and silvery rivers. And let’s not forget Wallonia’s copious cuisine: deliciously abundant, just like the portions. Artisanal chocolate, flavoursome cheeses, double fried frites, iconic Trappist beers are impossible to resist. Throw in a quirky festival, the warmest of welcomes and show stopping heritage sites and you have the makings of a precious memory making trip.

Golf in Wallonia: Putting Perfection

Wallonia has around forty championship courses in a compact area smaller than Wales. The British and Irish connection with Walloon golf runs deep. Tom Simpson was the first, designing at least four major "Royal" golf courses in Belgium during the 1930s. Other famed designers such as Robert Trent Jones Sr, Tom McAuley and father and son Fred and Martin Hawtree have also made their mark on the region’s courses.
